Woodsy Maine Engagement

I was honestly surprised I got any decent photos from this woodsy Maine engagement session, because the lushness and moss were so distracting! I was in heaven! Erica & Michael are my kinda people - artists living out of their beloved van, traveling around the country and planning for a laid-back autumn wedding in Maine later this year. Couldn't have asked for better adventure buddies!

The weird and wacky, ridiculously happy, unexpected and random little moments. Hugs, tears, laughter, wtf's. The ones I don't usually post or share. It's all here. These aren't the prettiest photos, but they're some of my favorite things to capture. This is why I'm a wedding photographer.

California // Rocky Coasts & Redwoods

Days after Kurtis and I were married, we drove to Northern California and spent a year caretaking on a homestead property in the middle of the redwood forest. Four years later, we made it back for a visit! Most of our trip was spent visiting our friends at the old homestead, but we had a few days to ourselves to explore the coast and camp (tentless!) along the way. The most amazing part of our trip was on Point Reyes, when I didn't use my camera but just soaked in the experience. All the photos here were taken along the coast in Sonoma and Mendocino counties. DIY Backyard Wedding

Amanda comes from what always seemed to me like a magical family. Four sisters! Who all look alike! Who are all creative and fun, athletic and artistic. All very talented and amazing ladies. I ran cross country and track with two of them wayyyy back when, and shared some of my favorite high school memories in their company. Amanda, youngest of the sisters, is a treasure. She has the sunniest personality, and it showed through in all aspects of this celebration. I didn't meet Matt until their wedding day. But I was immediately blown away by how crazy perfect they are for each other. His nickname is "Sunshine" for God's sake! I actually regretted that I hadn't known him as long as I'd known Amanda because he's one of the sweetest, most thoughtful guys I've ever met. During the father-daughter dance, he surprised her by performing the song himself. Damn, he's good.

I could go on forever about how I loved this wedding. Amanda's mother made her wedding dress and embroidered initials of all the bridesmaids among the leaves on the back. She also made Amanda's hairpiece, incorporating buttons from her own mother's old wedding gown.

So much love, attention to detail and hard work went into this cheery backyard wedding. Enjoy!

Rustic Farm Wedding

There are few things I'll really miss about living in Taunton once I move to Maine next month. Kurtis and I are looking forward to a house on a lake, at the end of a dirt road, surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods. We're pretty excited! But we'll definitely miss our weekly produce share from Adam & Megan at Second Nature Farm. It's really the simple things in life that make me happy, and lately it's the abundance of fresh, organic, locally grown strawberries and greens, baby bok choy and melons, rainbow carrots and kale that I pick up every week from the hard-working, cheery folks at Second Nature. It's a privilege and a magical experience to participate in this small farm community. I'll admit my role is an easy one - I've no problem consuming the delicious fruits of their labor! When I heard Megan & Adam were getting married, I was really happy for them. And when they invited me to photograph the lovely occasion on their farm, I was freakin' thrilled. Nathan Hale Homestead Wedding

Lanham and Josh were married in the Connecticut countryside, at the historic Nathan Hale homestead. Their day was full of meaningful details and passed-down treasures, and it was clear that family is so important to them. I was so happy to be a part of this lovely wedding! Press play.

Maine Maternity Photographer // Brandi & Zane

Brandi & Zane are undeniably the cutest pregnant couple I've ever known. Zane is my brother's brother-in-law and my other brother's best friend, which means that even though we rarely hang out, we're still basically family. I'm just getting to know Brandi, and I love her cool, girlboss demeanor and know she's going to be a kickass mama. Their little Elliott Grey was born yesterday, and I'm so happy for them!

Lobster Fishing Engagement Session // Meagan & Tim

Everyone, meet Maegan and Tim. She's from California, he's a local lobster fisherman. They're getting married this fall in Maine and had to incorporate their lobster boat and their sweet dog Macie into their engagement photos. I did not object! This shoot rocked.

Boston Engagement Photographer // Reem & JR

Reem and JR are awesome. They live in Boston, where Reem is working toward her PhD in chemistry and JR is pursuing a career in higher ed. They both LOVE the city and savor walking together from the North End to their home on Beacon St, whenever they get the chance. So for their engagement session, we retraced some of their steps and stopped at their favorite spots along the way. They sure make Boston in April look romantic, don't they?

April has been a good month. I photographed my first engagement session in Maine, and bought a house in the woods on a lake in Maine that same day. I met Erin and Tyler at a wedding I photographed last year, and I'm so excited to call them friends now. Knowing that awesome, sweet, laid-back, creative people like them will live nearby makes me more excited to move! These two love birds are musicians, and I think they know how to throw a kickass wedding celebration. Can't wait for their fun, outdoor wedding next summer!
